Pasture-raised eggs, organic small-batch preserves, and homegrown goodness โ from our hidden homestead in Metchosin.
The Crew
Every great farm has its characters. Ours happen to be a green-eyed black cat, a very enthusiastic black Lab, and a German Shepherd puppy who has not quite figured out that she is not in charge yet.
Our Story
Travis grew up just down the road in Happy Valley, raising chickens from childhood. His first hen was named Bock Bock, and it is safe to say that set the tone for everything that followed. When Chantal came into the picture, a self-described city girl with a deep love for animals, Travis had just brought home 20 new chicks. She named every single one of them and even bought them tiny helmets (yes, really).
When the two of them met, Chantal moved in and they purchased the property together, making it truly their own and building a home for their growing fluffy family. Since then, they have thoughtfully built out the gardens, the flock, and the whole menagerie of animals that now call it home: a genuine homestead with sweeping garden beds, over 85 birds representing some of the most beautiful heritage breeds around, and two very opinionated farm managers, Anna the cat and Archibald (Archie), their black English Lab.
From the road, you would never know it was there. Tucked away behind the house is a world of its own: chickens and geese moving through the yard, chicks in the brooder, lush gardens in every direction, and the unmistakable feeling of a place that is genuinely, joyfully alive. Chantal calls it a hidden little homestead paradise. She is not wrong.
Everything produced here is grown and made organically, free of pesticides. Ingredients are sourced locally wherever possible, with the only exceptions being the tropical fruit and dairy that find their way into some of our baked goods and preserves. Recipes are a blend of Chantal's own creations and beloved family recipes passed down through the years, prepared in small batches and always with care.

Revenue from products not flagged as farm income, for comparison โ not counted toward the total above.
Revenue vs. cost, side by side, for each part of the operation โ see whether raising meat birds or keeping layers is actually paying for itself.
Revenue is counted from sales of products tagged with an enterprise flag; costs are counted from expense line items tagged the same way. Tag products in the Products tab and expense line items when logging an expense โ manage the flags themselves under Settings.
Track every farm expense, whether it was paid from the business account or out of pocket.

A summary for filing your personal taxes โ income, expenses, and net result for the calendar year.
Reimbursements move money between the business and personal accounts โ they're not themselves taxable income or a deductible expense, since the underlying expense is already counted above.
This report is a starting point to hand to an accountant or use as a worksheet โ it is not tax advice, and category totals here won't map one-to-one onto CRA form line items without review. "Farm Income" reflects products flagged for farm income in the Products tab; "All Income" includes everything sold through the Sales Tracker.
